   Saffron is the heritage crop of kashmir espacially of Pampore town. It is the only expensive spice in the world which is grown in the lands of pampore, but as time running fast it looses its expensiveness, esteem, reality by ill responce by the government. Today we see saffron lands are turned into residential areas. Its all by the grace of govt. as they are not dare to ask people what they are doing. Also its the reason of non availability of such fertilizers which will boost its(saffron) cultivation. So people must come forward miles steps ahead to preserve our heritage crop and govt. Must support positive.

   We are fully supportive of your ideas. Correct me if I’m wrong but saffron is quite an expensive item and considered to be quite a luxurious entity in the food field. I am sure the Govt. knows this and would not just eradicate these saffron cultivation areas just to build some residential complexes.

   I don’t know what saffron rates are at the global market but found this information which gives an idea as to what it sells for at retail price.

   1g of Kashmiri Saffron = $12 - $20

   From Oct. 2006 to Oct. 2007 saffron prices have had a huge surge globally.

   Kashmiri saffron: 200% increase
   Iranian saffron: 200% increase
   Spanish saffron: 330% increase
